posting workshops

Dear Rosalie and group:
I don't think I agree that posting a small announcement about a workshop shouldn't be part of our group. Gee, folks have been doing that for over 10 years. I think it's okay if it is gently done.

I think Bud's point is that big ol' address lists should not be in the "to" or the "copy to" section, but either in the "Blind copy to" (BCC) address section (do you have it on your email program?) or just alone to the listserve with no other people being included--or at least not more than a couple of other people.

I'll admit, I personally would prefer that people not send PDF files, attached file announcements, etc., but rather limit their announcement to about (ideally) 200 words plus a "go to such and such website" for further information, or write the sender of the email. That makes it not so onerous to wade through. But that's a personal preference, not a rule or anything.

Bud was objecting to the common error that many people don't appreciate-- the ideal use of the Bcc section, so that those who receive the email only get their own address listed, not all the others who have been sent the announcement. As Bud notes, it's awkward to wade through, and many folks don't want their email address open to the public like that.

What do the rest of y'all think? Warmly, Adam
              responding to my pal Rosalie..

  Dear colleagues
I agree with Bud's email to the posting of upcoming workshops. Grouptalk has a purpose and posting workshops doesn't fit into its aims.
