FW: Gestation Period

Dear Manuela,
I have done a lot of outcome research but this question is new to me.
Usually you look on durability of changes or "transference of changes
into real life" rather than on "gestation" period. Nevertheless I
remember that approaches which do not use a "complete" processing after
sessions, like for example drama therapy or playback, do claim a process
of "self organization" of changes due to the impact of the emotinal
experience on the person rejecting a "rationale" working through of it.
I ignore if you do a processing in souldrama. If not it could be one of
the possible explainations for that fenomena even when it is hard to
proof on scientific grounds as an undisputed attribution to the session
itself. Now even assuming that this kind of non-processed emotoional
impact need some time of gestation for leading to a change it could not
explain a clear time relationship between sessions and changes with a
"mude gap" (like 3 or 4 month). Structural brain changes do usually
occur according to the ratio of the "emotional dosis" and the exposition
time of experiences (e.g. in trauma) - like a colleague already stated
for Pesso`s work - and in very close time relationship to the experience
itself. Still it could be fascinating to develop here a kind of
"different" model for changes (maybe in connection with a sequence of
repited and intermittent new experiences due to a "break through" of the
older "coping system" also after the session itself. Still the question
of the time-effect ratio would remain unclear to me.)
I share mostly experiences like Anne told with immediate recovery in the
same session or in the next 24 hours (e.g. in Brazil we had a woman in
our workshop which had a severe sleep disorder for more than 30 years;
after staging and re-scribing her terrifying birth scene during world
war II she could sleep in the following night for the first time without
problems). For me it is another very vital question how can we
contribute to uphold and maintain the change because not every change is
stable.
All the best, warm greetings
Jorge
