monney and cheap exchanges from country to country

Kia ora (greetings),

John Barton sent me this email when I was first asking about making a
payment from Aotearoa NZ. I have been on holiday and so haven’t done
anything about it yet and will have a good look at the site when I get the
time, but it makes sense to use this facility to send money to Tom. It will
require Tom to register by the looks of it, but it seems it will be a cheap
and secure option.

Cheers

Anne--If I understand you correctly----Tom needs to let us know the name of
his bank and then we ask our bank for the IBAN of Tom's bank. Seems to me
that Tom would also need to give out his account number too for a check to
get into his account?? Ugh! Is this right?

Last year I had my bank send a check in Australian currency to a psychodrama
colleague in payment for a book. The fee for this was almost as much as the
book. He had already sent me the book but I'll tell you, if I had known how
much it was gonna cost I would have waited for a Conference to buy it. I
certainly am not interested in paying twice as much for something so I am
quite interested in finding another way to buy things abroad. Patti

Re: monney and cheap exchanges from country to country: via IBAN /// List
Digest, Vol 1, Issue 43

dear Adam

1/ the cheapest way to send monney for practically only some cents, is to
ask one's bank for the Bank IBAN,

and then, send via an ordinary check = easy, swift, practically gratis,
could it be a big or a small amount of monney

near all banks , or very many banks, have it all over the world, -

-but not all - and may be not a special bank in USA

(no problem to ask, they have or they do not have it, it takes 5 minutes
only to phone and inquire

I have tried it many times from France to various countries, and it is easy
and practically gratis( a few cents only) , but I do not know if Tom's bank
has it or not and cannot guess , only he can phone them, to his own bank )

2/ as for other ways, like those Rebecca suggests, through PayPal or some
similar service.

I have never heard of it and do noit know if it exist in Europe and in
France, nor if it is quasi gratis or not

Tom has asked for one dollar only of each of us .; god, probably we will
send more, but it shall bemost sums and thus the invoice cannot be
exytravagantly expensive -

what is this Pay Pal and how to ask for it ? and how much it costs ? to send
a small amoount of monney by check to a bank account in a differtent country
or Continent (from Europe to USA)

Dear Rebecca, what a great idea for those international people who might
want to purchase stuff, send money, etc., through PayPal or some similar
service. I hadn't thought of this. Bank wiring is in many places very
expensive--they charge a lot of money to send money; and Western Union, or
generating cashier's checks, etc.--also awkward. I wonder if folks on
Grouptalk have found other ways that are least expensive for transferring
funds from other countries.

Sending checks may take weeks or longer to clear, and again the bank
takes a heavy administrative fee.

    Warmly, Adam

  Dear Anne,

If you would like, you can send money to Tom by using a credit card
through my account with Paypal. Let me know if you want to do this and I
will send you information on how to do it.
