During this highly experiential workshop participants will learn and practice the psychodramatic method, its structure, skills and techniques such as:
doubling
role reversal
concretization
warm ups
through structured exercises, vignettes and full psychodramas. Group members will have the opportunity to learn the 'nuts and bolts' of directing psychodrama as they work on issues from their own lives in a safe and supportive environment. They will have the opportunity to try on the roles of :
protagonist
auxiliary
group member
director
Group sociometry will be explored in action and sociometric interventions explained. Advanced students may have the opportunity to direct. Didactic sessions and thorough processing of the psychodramas will be included.
Who comes to Psychodrama Training Seminars?
Practicing professionals and students in areas of mental health, recovery, social service, creative arts therapy,education, corrections, pastoral counseling, medicine and personnel management attend our trainings. Many who attend our seminars do not intend to become professional psychodrama directors. They combine their own skills with psychodramatic methods to enhance their present work.
Students at all levels of experience are welcomed. Overnight accommodations are available.
Location: Boughton Place in Highland, NY, home of the original Moreno Psychodrama Stage is 90 miles north of NYC, right off the NYS Thruway. Highland is right next to New Paltz and the beautiful Shawangunk Mountains. It is within forty minutes from the historic village of Woodstock and the Catskill Mountains and right across the Hudson River from Hyde Park, home to the Roosevelt and Vanderbilt Mansions.
Boughton Place is easily accessible by public transportation including bus, train (Amtrak) and airplane We are 30 minutes from Stewart International airport in Newburgh, NY, about an hour and ten minutes from Albany Airport and about two hours from the NYC airports by car. There is also public transportation from the major NYC airports.

This workshop/training offers CEUs toward national credentialing by National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors NAADAC), National Board of Certified Counselors and towards recertification requirements for the National Registry of Group Psychotherapists.
This workshop/training offer hours towards certification by the American Board of Examiners in Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy
Many of our students who are social workers have had these hours accepted towards their social work CEU requirements, but that is on a state by state basis.
Judy Swallow and Rebecca Walters, HVPI's founders and directors, have been offering training in Psychodrama and Action Methods for group and individual therapy since 1989. They are certified as trainer, educators and practitioners of psychodrama, sociometry and group psychotherapy. They currently are both senior psychodramatists at Four Winds Hospital in Katonah, NY. They are known for their warmth, sensitivity, humor, and ability to create a safe environment in which students can learn and practice. Judy and Rebecca are the recipients of the 2005 Collaborator's Award from the American Society for Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama
