Dear Colleagues in Psychodrama--this is for people in the New York area. I want to support the building of bridges with our colleagues in drama therapy.
Sometimes what they have to offer will fertilize our imagination and expand our role repertoire.
Similarly, I try to pass along psychodrama events to their listserve.
(If you're not interested, please just delete)
       warmly, Adam

Subject: Drama Therapy Consortium's November and January workshops in New York City

Dear Colleagues,

Register now for the Drama Therapy Consortium's November and January workshops in New York City! In November, we are offering a foundational session on drama therapy, appropriate for students in the creative arts therapies or other mental health disciplines, new drama therapists, and experienced professionals from other disciplines curious about drama therapy. In January, we are offering a dynamic session using drama therapy to explore surviving and thriving in crazy systems--relevant for students or professionals in any helping discipline. Please see below for full workshop descriptions and registration information.

The Drama Therapy Consortium is an independent collective of drama therapists whose backgrounds, while firmly rooted in the field of drama therapy, include diverse training and experience related to the healing professions, specific populations, and theoretical and practical applications. Reflecting this, workshops integrate drama therapy theory and techniques, multi-disciplinary approaches, and practical strategies. For more information, please visit our new website at www.dramatherapyconsortium.com.

1. Principles of Drama Therapy

Sunday, November 5, 2006 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Kristin Long, LCAT, RDT-BCT and Barbara McKechnie, LCAT, RDT, LPC

This one-day intensive will introduce participants to the history and foundational principles of Drama Therapy. Sources, concepts, and theory, which make up the main body of knowledge, will be presented and examined. Strategies and techniques will be demonstrated and experientially explored for use in a variety of settings and clinical populations. CEUs for drama therapists.

2. Surviving and Thriving in Difficult Systems

Sunday, January 7, 2007 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Darby Moore LCAT, RDT-BCT and Elizabeth Speck LCAT, RDT-BCT

Many creative professionals work in institutional settings that stifle creative inspiration. Understanding theory about how and why systems operate can offer the "aesthetic distance" we need to see the craziness instead of letting it overwhelm us. In this workshop, we will introduce multi-disciplinary ideas and concepts, and play experientially with the many roles that can be found within systems. Participants will emerge with increased understanding of and empowerment in their vital roles as creative arts therapists within challenging systems. CEUs for drama therapists.

Workshops will be held at CAP 21 Studios, near Union Square in Manhattan. The fee for each workshop is $85.00, due one week prior to the workshop. To reserve your space, please mail payment made out to Kristin Long, indicating which workshop(s) you are registering for, to:
