I have been asked if Grouptalk listserve discussion messages can be stored
the on the Grouptalk website together with a keyword search function. The
answer is yes. Please review this note and let me know if it is ok to make
the listserv discussions public on the grouptalkweb home page. Keep in
mind that they are already .public. and can be viewed at this url:
http://grouptalkweb.org/pipermail/list_grouptalkweb.org/
The Grouptalk archives are presently 'public', meaning anyone with the URL
can view the messages. They can be set to 'private', meaning a password
is needed to view the archives, yet this procedure will cost 150.00 per
year.
Public archives would be displayed to people doing google searches.
Upside is that would drive a little more traffic to your site and possibly
generate more members. Also, the email address of senders is obscured to
prevent spammers harvesting addresses from your list. Downside is some
members might not want their messages displayed for the world to see,
having thought they were only posting to the small group of insiders.
Although Grouptalk archives are presently public, there is presently no
listing on google, since there are no public page links pointing to the
archives.
If you can live with them being publically accessible like that, we can
set up a search that relies on google to do the leg work. It would work
good, but might lag a few days between updates. Probably less than a week
lag. This can set this up for free.
In summary, public archives are free. Private archives will cost 150.00
per year.
In my opinion, public would best serve Grouptalk listserv membership.
