In my training I heard wonderful remarks about Hannah Wiener.
I concur with the idea of a reminiscence theater to remember our elders
and their contributions. I am still not clear about the originator of the,
"MAGIC SHOP," and would like to hear more about who invented same...

Hi Lorelei,
It is rumoured it was Hannah, and I would accept it.I learned it from her,and

then improvised additional versions. As did others. But I think the main
idea was her. I am open to be contradicted. Perhaps,Anne Shutzenberger can
shed more loght.

Dear Karen,
I am happy tell you a little about Hannah. When I came to NY in the
late 50's I attended one of her open sessions at the Moreno Institue
then at 101 Park Ave. I was amazed. She made psychodrama so much a
part of her that I had impression that I thought she had really
invented it. She was a witch. I couldn't figure how she did what she
did. She would sometimes double with one word or a phrase that seemed
meaningless to me but the protagonist would break into happy tears.
I never met a more natural psychodramatist before or since. I soon
became a regular at her sessions. I only met Moreno and Zerka later
and learned that Hannah, did not in fact, invent psychodrama, but she
certainly assimilated it into her soul.

Hannah had zillions of friends and she always appeared at psychodrama
events with a retinue of admirers. They knew about her and didn't
want to miss the show. A genuinely spontaneous person herself, she
was able to impart spontaneity to other by example alone. She was
also very funny. This same mind that could pick on the subtle cues
from a protagonist also gave her a delightful sense of humor.

It was a terrible loss when she died young of cancer. Psychodrama has
never been the same.
I didn't think that that movement could survive without her.
Fortunately I was wrong it has but her influence has survived in the
psychodramatic style of those who knew her.

This is the woman whose name was used for the Award you received.
Ask anyone who was around in those days.

Sincerely, Jim

I think it's a GREAT idea to post articles on our web site -- resources
are good to draw people in and learn about this method. I am especially
interested in this one, as I received the Hannah Weiner award a couple of
years ago, and sorry to say that I really don't know who Hannah was, except
for apparently having a hand in developing the Magic Shop. May I say that it
would be great to have a selection of writings from the award winners
through the years. It would be another way of recognizing the winners AND
also helping us actually know more about them and why they are special to
ASGPP. Karen Carnabucci, MSS, LCSW, TEP Companions In Healing Lake
