?What is most important to me is to live in a world that is not being murdered.?
Hailed as the ?philosopher poet? of the ecological movement, Derrick Jensen passionately explains how our industrial civilization, and the persistent and widespread violence it requires, cannot last. He weaves history, philosophy, psychology, environmentalism, economics, and literature into an intricate pattern of truth and resistance. The 2006 Press Action Award called Jensen?s book Endgame ?the best work of nonfiction in 2006. Given the significance of its subject matter and the urgency of Jensen?s message, Endgame is the most important book of the decade and could stand as the must-read book of our lifetimes.?
The workshop will address two themes: The Problem of Civilization and Resistance. Derrick will offer a series of provocative premises, including ?Civilization is killing the planet. We are living in a world that is being murdered,? and ?Love does not imply pacifism.? He vividly imagines an end to industrialized, technological civilization, offering an original framework for creating a sustainable way of life.
The theme of resistance will catapult our discussion into a passionate call for action. Derrick touches the heart and the soul by diving deep into our culture?s devastation. Ed Schreiber will complement Derrick?s work by sharing processes that will deepen our connection to one another, to the world, and to ourselves.
Practical solutions will emerge by focusing on our most primal human desire: to live on a healthy earth overflowing with uncut forests, clean rivers, and thriving oceans that are not under the constant threat of destruction. We are capable of being a harmonious part of the cycles of life on our planet.
Derrick Jensen is an author, teacher, activist, farmer, and leading voice in uncompromising dissent and revolutionary spirit. Besides Engame, he wrote A Language Older Than Words, Strangely Like War, Listening to the Land, and The Culture of Make Believe.
Ed Schreiber will augment Derrick?s presentation with his masterful facilitation. He will share his intimate knowledge of J.L. Moreno?s revolutionary method of activism that offers tools for achieving psychological and emotional freedom and responsibility. Ed directs the Moreno Institute East and the Zerka T. Moreno Foundation for Education, and teaches internationally.
?What I really want is for people to think for themselves, feel for themselves, ask the earth where they live ?What must we do?? and to act on the answers that emerge.? ? Derrick Jensen
