Dear Adam,
I am aware that people are not signing up for the ABE website as quickly as we all might like, but even if they were, a personal referral usually feels better to people than picking a name out of a directory. We will always suggest that people check our the ABE site in addition to our own referral base.
Also, our referral list is open to people who are not yet certified as long as they are working under the supervision of a certified psychodramatist. This should cover a lot of folks currently in training.
Now before folks jump down my throat about there being perfectly wonderful psychodramatists who haven't chosen to get certified, please be assured that we do know that. However the certification process is the only form of standards we have as a profession, and there are a lot of people out there claiming to do psychodrama who have had very little training. Therefore we are limiting this referral base to people who have the credentials or are working under/with someone who does. That way we can all be assured of at least a minimal level of competency. And perhaps this will be one more push in the direction of certification for those on the fence. We can hope.
Rebecca

Good for your initiative, Rebecca and Bill!
Interestingly, though, Dale Richard Buchanan, the executive director of the American Board of Examiners, has noted that a remarkably few CPs and TEPs have actually put up their personal information, what their work is, their photo, etc., on the American Board of Examiners' website! Might this be a more natural, better referral base? (Might this website, which has been funded by the dues of CPs, TEPs, and applicants, already be set up to fulfill this function?)
I agree that it would be good to have a place where folks who seek therapists can be referred. I've also played the role of matchmaker, responding to requests like, "Do you know anyone in X area who can help my (friend, sister, patient who is moving to the USA, etc.)."
Then there are requests for training: "I am a psychodrama student / teacher living in X country and I'll be coming to the USA to study / visit for a week / month / six months and I would like to (offer a workshop / take a workshop / get an internship / visit with people in the area where I'm staying / visiting )."
I do what I can, looking through the current ABE directory, but it isn't all that much. As more people do sign up with the ABE website www.psychodramacertfication.org it will become ever-more functional for us, I think.
Other impressions, feedback? Warmly, Adam Blatner

Dear Psychodramatists,
Over the course of the last several years HVPI has been steadily getting calls for referrals to psychodrama groups throughout the US. Bill Coleman, a Psychodramatist at Sierra Tucson, is also currently looking for psychodramatists to whom to refer patients as they leave his programs. (Below is a letter from him.) We have decided to create a database of currently running groups throughout the country.
If you are a certified psychodramatist or an advanced student running groups under the supervision of a certified psychodramatist and are interested in receiving referrals, please take the time to fill out the inquiry below. PLEASE USE THE FORMAT OF THE INQUIRY or we will not be able to add your info to the referral database.
Rebecca Walters
Hudson Valley Psychodrama Institute
The following note is from Bill Coleman, at Sierra Tucson.
Sierra Tucson is asking for your help. I am currently a Trauma Therapist and Psychodramatist at Sierra Tucson. We discharge a dozen (or so) trauma and sexual compulsive patients every month and they all want and need more group work, particularly Psychodrama. They come from all over the country, in fact the world.
If you are currently running personal growth, on-going psychodrama groups, or workshops (not training groups) and you would like referrals, could you please let me know.
I can also pass along your information to our Chemical Dependency, Eating Disorder
and Mood Program Coordinators.
If it looks like there is good match, our Continuing Care Coordinator will contact you.
Thanks for your help. Hope we can connect soon.
