Dear Ed, Patty, Shu, and others, thanks for the response.
   Yes, Ed, avoidance of hanging out with worry should not be interpreted as supporting 
denial. It is good to be aware of the realities of the situation.
        Then we should ask ourselves what we can meaningfully do to respond.
             Having done that, and made our decisions for what we can do to be engaged, 
the key is to give ourselves freedom not to continue to remind ourselves of the danger.

Growing older, facing my mortality, I need to make sure the proper arrangements and 
paperwork are made, but beyond that, there are a number of defensive maneuvers that may 
backfire. One that has become a bit of a scandal is pre-paid funeral arrangements---this 
being reported on in a recent AARP journal. And so forth.
