Dear Ed, Adam, Patti, Rebecca and others
I find this a very, very interesting discussion about what to do with
Sociatry...very pertinent for the season too..I am trying to decide myself
whether I should continue more just with my patients or also getting more
involved in social causes...Using community Sociodrama for example...
After all what makes psychodrama so special and spiritual is not just the
method but mainly its philosophy, expressed in Moreno`s writings.
The First International Sociodrama Congress held in Portugal last October,
where 150 people attended, from 15 countries, was dealing with the question
of application of sociatry to our social realities in the world,at micro and
macro interventions in organizations, education and community.
One of our main conclusions was that we have been talking more about
Sociodrama and sociatry in the world then actually doing it!
We had however demonstrations of a few real applications in Brazil, Israel,
England, Sweden, Portugal, etc.
The next Congress will be held in between Sweden and Finland, territories
where, in fact, social awareness and responsibility seams to be very high.
These sort of meetings about Sociatry my bring us some new solutions for
those who are more inspired to used the therapeutic methods to the whole
humankind...

Wish you all a meaningful 2008!

Ed, your point about what, me worry? is valid especially regarding the part
of the
spectrum that is below 4% in my rough imagined scene: This is denial, the
state achieved
by getting drunk or absorbed in distractions.
I'm proposing a middle arena of engagement and edge that at the same
time doesn't
shift from level "yellow" or medium alertness to level "red" (over 12%) at
which point
affects cloud judgment.
This threshold varies with temperament and other factors.
I also want to emphasize that what-to-do-about-it needs to be woven in:
The old
serenity prayer by Niebuhr--the courage to change what I can, and strength
to endure what
I cannot, and the wisdoom to know the difference. This discrimination is the
key.
I want to seek very specific and practical applications of sociatry
and not be
satisfied with just talking about how it is a grand idea.
Warmly, ADam
