Empathy training

Dear John, what does PCL-R stand for, and where can this test be obtained, do you know?
Second, do you know of ways of applying any useful Lacanian psychoanalytic principles in a way that psychopaths will hold still for?
Third, I want to remind folks of Alfred Adler's attention to the client's goals, and gently turning the clients towards "social interest," which is the opposite of psychopathy.
Whether psychopaths can be changed may yet be explored. I was intrigued at your comment that this treatment is currently fashionable. Are you aware of any approaches that have measured results?
Warmly, Adam

Has it (is more than an it than a he at this point) been given the PCL-R and how did he score. While psychopaths can learn how to appear empathic (e.g., watching television and the movies to see how empathic characters act), you cannot teach psychopaths empathy. Treatment of them is all the rage now- there is a difference in teaching how to cope as opposed to effect healing- but if they get out of adolescents forget treatment. I studied with Robert Hare in October and he had with him the brain scans on the research coming out of Brazil where there is more access to inmates, the process that should create empathy takes place in a different part of the psychopaths brain. Psychopaths do not have language facilitators (i.e., emotional connotation that a word carries like cancer or rape). Sorry psychodrama is not Lacanian psychoanalysis and a true psychopath will eat a psycho dramatist for lunch. John Matteson
