An enthusiastic group of 15 gathered at St. Luke's on Saturday morning for MAC's winter program meeting. Patti Dessert led us in a thought-provoking and inspiring exploration of our comfort and sense of competence in the roles we play. We began by introducing ourselves and sharing with the group four roles that we play in life about which we feel good. Patti then used a spectragram to allow us to examine our level of anxiety about participating in psychodrama that day. 

This was followed by a locogram that used Harville Hendrix's role breakdown of sensor, feeler, thinker and doer. Using empty chairs, we chose the one of the four roles that we experienced ourselves playing most frequently in our present lives and discussed our feelings about playing this role with others who had chosen it. We then chose the one of the four roles we had the most difficulty confronting in others and imagined a scene in our lives in which we confronted someone in that role. We gathered in a circle, and each of us described our scene to the group in one sentence. Then those who did not wish to be protagonist stepped back, leaving the potential protagonists to describe their psychodramatic goals in more detail. Action sociometry was used for protagonist selection, and all participants had an opportunity to express the reasons for their selection to the person they had chosen.

After a break, Patti directed a powerful psychodrama followed by sharing and processing. Because of excellent time management, their was opportunity for all to get their questions answered about the process of the psychodrama.

Our thanks to Patti, who is a recently certified psychodramatist, for her superb directing and training. MAC's current agenda is encouraging local psychodramatists to share their skills and wisdom. Merry Macke has agreed to lead our Spring program meeting, which will be held at St. Luke's on the afternoon of May 5. We hope that you will all be there with us.
