Daer Colleagues:

I certainly appreciate all the information being exchanged here so far and am familiar with the role training aspects of working with Aspergers and the fulll range of people diagnosed in the autism spectrum all the way from simple ABA to the more complex social activity structures.

I am a bit distressed that no one has responded to my posts about how important it is to look at the biochemical/neurochemical aspects of this condition. The group DAN ( Defeat Autism Now ) led by some of the most experienced and dedicated clinicians in the field whose web information I supplied have actually been able to normalize many severely austistic children through proper analysis of their biomedical information, removing toxic substances through various medical interventions and supplying the needed suppliments to address the biomedical deficiencies that have derived over the years.

In my opinion, given the qualifications of the physicians and others working with this over the past decade as well as the literally thousands of parents and clinicians who are working at this, it is essential to look into this deeply. Not doing so can cause totally unecessary suffering given the possibilities that these interventions supply both for the dramatic improvement of all persons diagnosed as well as the fair promise of total remission and cure.

Finally, understanding how these toxicities create the condition and how to prevent them is critical. Our congress is actually considering some bills that will assist in addressing at least some of these. Most if not all children who may come to suffer this condition can be prevented from doing so. The cost to their families both emotionally, physically, and fiscally is highly preventable and if not addressed properly will continue to drain them and those who support them in their struggle. Billions of dollars are poured into treating and supporting autism today both here and around the world. A great deal of this money especially in the mostly ineffective schools where they attend presently as children through to the workshop settings for adults later on as well as the intitutional settings are a preventable loss of utilizable funds for far more productive programs for them and for us all.

  Blessings, all, Bud

Subject: Acting Antics: A Theatrical Approach to Teaching Social Understanding to Kids and
Teens with Asperger Syndrome

This fun and inspiring step-by-step program provides the full set of tools for developing
social understanding in children with Asperger Syndrome (AS) through drama.

Cindy B. Schneider explains how the central processes in acting - including making and
interpreting inferences from non-verbal cues, taking another's perspective, and
formulating language - can be highly effective ways of addressing social cognition
deficits in children with AS. Acting Antics contains a wide repertoire of activities and
ideas for immediate application at home, in the classroom, in therapy workshops or social
groups, ranging from initial warm up techniques, through paired activities, to larger
group scenes and staging a show. Helpful appendices provide questionnaire forms to enable
both the child and the program leader to assess and monitor the child's understanding of
their roles, along with reproducible scripts and suitable scene designs.

This complete, practical program provides a wealth of enjoyable educational ideas for
parents, teachers, and therapists of children with Asperger Syndrome.
