  I am not sure, perhaps your "present level of awareness" has not allowed you to really look deeply into either the work of Hoffer and Osmond or the work of Bernard Rimland and the DAN group regarding autism.If not, just google Abram Hoffer or check out Orthomolecular psychiatryat : http://www.orthomed.org/jom/jomlist.htm

  For a treat, just check out the following site especially look at the videos of recovered autistic children on their site at  http://www.autism.org 

  There is a lot of good research around both of these. If you go to the hundreds of pages about orthomolecular psychiatry, you will see them. I will look up the apology by the panel of judges that invalidated the Orthomolecular psychiatric approach back in the 70s. The so called duplication which was not at all a duplication of the work of Hoffer and Osmond was done at Rockland State Hospital here in New York.  One of my Uncles was one of the pharmacist at Rockland State at the time. He was appauled at the way they were doing the duplication as it was clear to him they were cheating. He valued his job and his retirment and had seen worse things in his career there and elsewhere and kept his mouth shut. 
  The NIH has been and continues to be in league with the pharmaceuticals who are some of the biggest contributors to campaign funds in the US. If you don't think that is a problem, I don't know what to say. They gave some little openings to alternative treatments and I mean very little. I have many stories about their working together with the American Cancer Society old boys network sabotaging cancer treatments and continuing instead to direct monies to their buddies ( I will excuse the reference)  and that is one of the the reasons that the Germans work hasn't come here yet. They are far more successful with elite treatments for most forms of cancer and are successful with these treatments to a high degree costing patients from the US a whole $1,000 a day for this elite treatment some of which, as I say is coming here slowly. 

  Of course I can tell you ojne horror story after another about AZT which is helping to kill off children and adults all over the world as they continue to use, when they have it, a test called the Western Blot for HIV which is even discredited in some major countries let alone the extraordinary research done by our teams seen on www.virusmyth.com 

  While I may applaud your scepticism at times, sometimes it clouds the eyes especially when relying on the "Mainstream" since they simply do not recognize that much good low level research has been going on for years which cannot compete with that often fraudulent research conducted by the large Multi Billion Dollar Pharmaceuticals who will do everything they can to promote their drugs, witness the recent hubub about Zyprexa and others, and prevent natural substances which are effective and cost little to replace their huge profits. 

  Here's one for you,. BHT 250 to 350  mg per day capsules will defeat most if not all cases of Herpes and support heart and circulatory function as well. In my work with AIDS patients, I have astounded many couples by leading them to that research and they were overjoyed and became healthier than myself as I suffer from that disease of the helping profession called not taking care of yourself while taking care of others.   There are hundreds of these things available but guess what. You have to go after them as there is too little profit in them. In addition, the health food industry is as cut throat as any other which confuses people as well.   Nuff said. Dream on about the ligitmacy and ethicalness of the American medical profession and take a look at one of the statements by one of the signatories of the decloration of Independence, Benjamin Rush, MD, also known as the "Father of American Psychiatry." While his ideas about African or "Negroid" people were somewhat bizarre as were many at that time, he had it right about the following:  "Unless we put Medical Freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship . . . to restrict the art of healing to one class of men, and deny equal privilege to others... It will be to constitute the Bastille of Medical Science. All such laws are un-American and despotic and have no place in a Republic ... The Constitution of this Republic should make special privilege for Medical Freedom as well as Religious Freedom.

         This is also true for psychotherapy and its methods, and many are asking for this regarding psychodrama. So it's a call to shift our attention from projecting our frustrations on the parental-transference-authorities and take responsibility to make our case, write it up, do the research, etc.

  I would like to add that there is much that can be said similarly about the biomedical treatment of Schizophrenia similar to what I have mentioned in Autism. 

  Abram Hoffer, MD and his colleague Humphry Osmond from Saskatchuan Canada back in the 60s took up the lead established by the only person being a 2 time Nobel prize winner who would have won it 3 times had our desperately reactionary adminstration of the time similar to the present one allowed him to go out of the country to look at the work of Watson and Crick. I am speaking of Linus Pauling who would have been able to demonstrate the double helix DNA far ahead of the two Englishmen as Pauling already had everything in place except for some little information that they had at the time. 

  Pauling coined the phrase orthomolecular medicine and Hoffer and Osmond worked with this as orthomolecular psychiatry.  They along with Bill W. of alcoholics anonymous as well as many in the clinics in San Francisco in the 60s pioneered the use of various suppliments especially Niacin and vitamin C as essential ingredients to normalize the overstressed immune and neurological responses of seriously mentally effected individuals. 

  Hoffer and Osmond continued to refine their work and obtained better and better results which were discredited through the work of the Pharmaceuticals hit men. Eventually, psychiatrists who served at the pleasure of these forces recanted their dismissal of the work but this retraction barely has made it into any "reputable" medical or psychiatric journals all of which are totally at the whim of the pharmaceuticals that support them and to a large extent support medical schooling here and abroad. 

  I was actually asked during the early 70s by the American Schizophhrenia Foundation. who were basically a parent organization working with Hoffer and Osmond here in the US, to run a series of halfway houses for them in whcih I would basically do role training to reorient their patients to the real world as they had been so institutionalized prior to their orthomolecular treatment that they were like fish out of water. 

  One of the psychiatrists in this country who are working diligently in this area largely beginning in mood disorders having built a reputation in the alternative medical community is Michael Schachter MD see http://www.schachtercenter.com/ His new book, What Your Doctor May NOt Tell You About Depression has received a great deal of praise regarding his work with mood disorders. The book is very well received by persons with quite a reputation themselves like Majid Ali, MD of New York City.

  I am a bit distressed that no one has responded to my posts about how important it is to look at the biochemical/neurochemical aspects of this condition. Not doing so can cause totally unecessary suffering given the possibilities that these interventions supply both for the dramatic improvement of all persons diagnosed as well as the fair promise of total remission and cure. 

  Finally, understanding how these toxicities create the condition and how to prevent them is critical. Our congress is actually considering some bills that will assist in addressing at least some of these. Most if not all children who may come to suffer this condition can be prevented from doing so.  The cost to their families both emotionally, physically, and fiscally is highly preventable and if not addressed properly will continue to drain them and those who support them in their struggle. Billions of dollars are poured into treating and supporting autism today both here and around the world.  A great deal of this money especially in the mostly ineffective schools where they attend presently as children through to the workshop settings for adults later on as well as the intitutional settings are a preventable loss of utilizable funds for far more productive programs for them and for us all.
