Dear Adam, I just went back to the forum. So far, not too impressed, in terms of what you were hoping to see there. But I'll check back every once in a while, to support your enthusiasm and our president's aspirations.
I went to the sub-forum, “Poetry and Word Art,” in which you have your poems, haikus. Well, that is interesting, whether people want to read personal expressions like those---more like what some people put in their blog.
AMB: By the way, if by “play” you mean thoughtful creative dialogue with the global community here on Group-Talk versus on the ASGPP Forum, then yes I agree with your use of the term “play.” I definitely want to play. The question really is where is my best use of my “play” time? So I have made my choice, to spend more of my time at the asgpp Forum than I do on Grouptalk, even if it’s a lonely playground right now, but the participation is already climbing.
AB okay
AMB: And I tire quickly of the endless scrolling through redundant emails attached to people’s Grouptalk submissions. It makes my head hurt.
AB: Glad you brought that up: We need to be a bit more meticulous about not just clicking "reply," but rather first selecting (with dark cursor) and deleting / erasing parts of the past messages (or most of it, most of the time), before we reply! Jim Sacks suggested this and I want to re-encourage people to do it. Please won't others also comment when whole long lists of past emails are included?
Finally, you asked what I know of sociatry. I'll say again, it is simply a general idea, that of applying what we've learned in psychology in the service of helping larger social units, neighborhoods, politics, etc.
I said that we need more specifics. For example, let's use what I've written about role theory and the role concept as the foundation for a more user-friendly language in psychology, and with that aid, perhaps we can sell what I call "psychological literacy" so that some day it will be taught more widely in schools, colleges, and other settings.
We are in the midst of a trend towards more interest in practical psychology.
I think teaching a few role playing concepts, such as the idea of imagining what it's like to be in a role, bringing in imagination and integrating it more with language-left-brain skills--- so that people do role taking as part of learning history and literature... that this is another basic step in sociatry.
I don't see sociatry as involving only Morenian approaches.
Warmly, Adam
