Dear Adam, dear all,

first of all I am surprised that Goyo is writing to you - when he is looking for somebody related to Sociodrama in Europe and Israel. Of course I recognize your competence and your well established role in our community. Nevertheless we just had the first international conference on sociodrama in Lisboa. But the good thing in it is that his question gives me the possibility to inform about an important on-line discussion and working group which was created just during that first International Sociodrama Conference in Lissabon last october 2007 - a wonderful event organized by Manuela Maciel, the current IAGP Psychodrama section chair and the Portuguese Psychodrama Community. Participants of this group come from Sweden (Judith Teszary, Monika Westberg, Mariolina Werner and Kirtin Jurdell), the US (Jeannie Burger), the UK (Ron Wiener, Clive Springfield and Diane Adderley), Israel (Peter Felix Kellerman), Spain (Pablo Alvarez, Natacha Navarro and myself), Finland (Marjut Partanen and Reijo Kauppila) and Portugal (Manuela). We are trying to resume the current concepts and ideas among us aiming to publish them together in a while. There was also interest in our group to open it including everybody interested in its ongoing process. Still some resistance to this idea was brought up (including myself) while the contents might become too diverse in this very early state of having this group work. In relationship with current trends and practise in Sociodrama the conference itself was very impressive and I am sure that Manuela will talk about it and will publish again the link to its well designed blogg.

Coming back to the question of Goyo please ask me for the e-mail of the colleagues mentioned below privately while they might not want to see it published without their permission (maybe it´s only my own paranoia).

Goyo I suggest to contact also for colleagues in Vienna: psychodrama at oeagg.at which is the secretary of the austrian section of psychodrama in the frame of the austrian society of group psychotherapy and group dynamics. Two good colleagues are: Dr. Jutta Fürst (she is working also with myths) and Mag. Helmut Haselbacher: (he was also in Granada some years ago making a sociodrama there).

Goyo I suggest to contact for the UK: Ron Wiener or Clive Springfield.

Goyo I suggest to contact for Israel: Peter Felix Kellermann or Jacoov Naor.

Apart from these questions one comment from my side on the theatre of the opressed model and its techniques. I am using myself some of the elements performing the mitosociodrama approach in communities and larger audiences (for example in Bergama/Turkey). Boal was definitely against the use of his techniques for therapy. He conceived therapy as an ideology and a sublime way of the western culture to deflect social responsability and the impact of power and social injustice towards the individual. Nevertheless a lot of you might know that he gave a wonderful speech in IAGP Amsterdam conference about encounter and alienation. I am myself also very much interested in developping the synergetic effects between the several action oriented models for large groups and community work (drama therapy, sociodrama, playback, theatre of the opressed) having published on it in 2003 in german. The next granada summer academy of the IAGP (www.granada-academy.org) will partly address this topic as well (Ed Schreiber/US, Pedro Godoy/Chile, Mario Buchbinder/Argentine, Ursula Hauser/Costa Rica, Maurizio Gasseau/Italy, Jose Fonseca/Brazil and others will contribute).

So this discussion might reflect a tele or effect of sincronicity on the topic. All the best, warmly

Jorge

Dear Colleagues---especially those who might be interested in sociodrama---Goyo asked me to share this correspondence with you and invites your input, feedback, networking, suggestions, etc.
So: original email from: GREGORIO ARMAÑANZAS To:'Adam Blatner'Sent: Tuesday, October 23, 2007
Dear Adam, I always go to you when I need some contact or bibliography. Last time was about training muses in make psychodrama groups. Your information’s helped to me. Thank you.
My present need comes from an experience that I had in Guernica (Spain). There, there is an organization working for peace. I assisted to a workshop organised below the title of “Arte and Peace”. Three professionals coming from the theatre coordinated the workshop. They are from Austria, United Kingdom and Israel. They titled its interventions as a kind of theatre of the oppressed. I felt fascinated noticing that what they made, was so similar to our psychodrama and sociodrama. I wrote an e-mail stimulating them to approach to sociodrama. Some of them have answered asking for books about sociodrama. Could you recommend me some?
I give this so long explanation because I know about your interest about how psychodrama and sociodrama is been implemented.
Do you know sociodramatists in Vienna, Israel and UK (Wales)?
         Warmly, Goyo

.... and Adam's response 14 November: Hello, Goyo, Your email is important. Peter Felix (Natan) Kellermann in Israel has written about sociodrama--- an article. When you ask if I know some folks, I am tempted to ask the wider community what they have been doing more recently.
The classic book by Sternberg & Garcia is noted on my website list of psychodrama books---"Who's in your shoes."
I find the TO people (confidentially) giving allegiance to Boal's claim that his work is not psychodrama. I don't know how much Boal has bothered to really learn about sociodrama--- I suspect a degree of pride here.
I agree with your perception that there is room for mutual learning and influence between TO work and sociodrama, and even a bit with psychodrama.
May I pass along your request to the grouptalk and also IAGP-PD listserves? (He agreed, so here it is)
