In warming up to my presentation at the next psychodrama conference in April here in Texas (see www.asgpp.org), in which I suggest that we re-vision our mission as bigger than psychotherapy, and bigger even than psychodrama, I note that Moreno offered a number of important contributions in many fields. I'm trying to draw an analogy to some other widely known people in history who have thought about and made significant contributions to several fields of endeavor. (They could be several different fields---it's just the idea of several). Buckminster Fuller comes to mind. Please share with me some others that you can think of.

For Moreno, as I think about it, here are some of his areas of interest and contributions:
-- in applied theatre (improvisational drama)
-- in role playing in education
-- in social psychology, looking at patterns of rapport (sociometry)
-- in sociology, soc psych, and psychology, looking at human mind/behavior/interaction from viewpoint of dramaturgical metaphor (role theory)
-- in theology/spiritual philosophy, emphasizing immanence and creative principle
-- influencing Buber with his I and Thou theory, promoting a spirituality that involves more encounter, more of an integration of psychology, interpersonal interactiion, and spiritual connectedness
-- in culture and psychology, emphasizing dynamics of creativity and many cultural forces that inhibit it, thus its need
-- in psychotherapy, of course (as psychodrama, and also many concepts that can be applied without ever doing classical psychodrama)
           the concept of the warm-up
role reversal multiple parts of self and externalizing inner dialogue, mediation of inner conflict
and so forth. These also have applications beyond therapy, in everyday life
-- as axiodrama, sociodrama, in education, social action (bridging to other drama/social action approaches such as theatre of the oppressed)
-- influencing playback theatre and use for community building
-- drama and improv as recreation, as in my method of the Art of Play
-- emphasizing need for action and experiential education, expressiveness
-- influencing less directly the many action and interventionist other therapies, encounter groups, etc.--
supporting body therapy, and bridges made to intensify effectiveness of other approaches, Jungian, psychoanalytic, etc.
-- sociometry as a foundation for organizational development, consulting, theory
-- role training as complex skill rehearsal, now part of political debate, military training, etc.
            And so forth.

I'm also open to your suggesting elements or components not listed above.

Warmly, Adam
