Hi Ed, responses to your points: From: Edward Schreiber
I am not aware that Heldref is planning to sell the Journal. In fact at last year's conference, at the Journal's workshop, our editor-representative at Heldref was at the workshop and seemed ready and eager to build the Journal to address our needs. So I am surprised with this news, particularly since I am a Consulting Editor for the Journal and this is the first I've heard this plan by Heldref.
AB: I found out indirectly myself. A new director of publications took over around that time, April 07, and has been evaluating the profitability and vitality of their entire line. JGPPS was near the bottom on some criteria that I'm not completely sure about. I think the struggle for sufficient material is one.
ES I have copies of the British Journal and the Australian Journal. Both are mind-blowing in depth, practice, content, visual presentation and readable for those practicing the method and those looking to learn about our method.
AB: I've been even more impressed with the German Journal, and even the Russian Journal (published in Ukraine) for a few years had more material.
ES I would love to see our Journal move toward these great models. I am not an executive editor, I can only raise my voice, and struggle myself to write and offer what I am learning. I think the Journal is a critically important tool for communication about the method and advances, reflections and examples, new practices and old practices, etc. I always wanted Ann Hale's work to be published in the Journal. It would be amazing if the Journal published (in several volumes) Ann's training book on sociometry. That would be a fantastic contribution to the world.
AB: There certainly has been a great deal of encouragement for her and many others. There is a discipline involved in writing, then revising as suggested by the editors, and many haven't been interested in pursuing this effort.
Warmly, Adam
