Hi Grouptalk Pals, I'm going to stop forwarding these items to grouptalk, but rather if
you are interested, you can join the dramatherapy listserve. Email your interest to Sally
at her address. I figure that some of you are indeed interested in making bridges or doing
work that reaches over to integrate not only drama therapy approaches but also art, music,
dance, etc. We're seeing a lot of that at our conferences.
(Nanine Ewing, the keynote speaker, not only gave a good lecture---though hoarse---
but led the best dance-movement closing dance/ceremony/ song-sound event (not much words)
that I think I ever enjoyed at a conference!)
So the following are various offerings and as I say, if you like this kind of
thing, contact Sally; if not, ignore the rest of this. Warmly, Adam

________________________SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH and the ARTS
STUDY FINDS CONNECTION BETWEEN ARTS AND IMPROVED THINKING SKILLS
The Dana Foundation recently released findings
from three years of studies by neuroscientists
and psychologists at seven universities. The
report, entitled "Learning, Arts and the Brain"
explains how the arts contribute to improving the
general thinking skills of children and
adults. Elizabeth S. Spelke, one of the scholars
who took part in the research project, said "I
think the work done here suggests a much closer
connection between the cognitive processes that
give rise to the arts and the cognitive processes
that give rise to the sciences." To read the

PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES ON THE IMPORTANCE OF ARTS EDUCATION
Presidential candidates have spoken on the
importance of the arts in students'
education. They also are quick to criticize NCLB
as an unfunded mandate that neglects to address
the big picture as we assess the nation's
education system. Read further in an article
from the Pittsburg Post-Gazette at

Additionally, you can watch Barak Obama address
the importance of arts education in a speech
given April 2 in Wallingford, PA on
YouTube. Talking about cuts that many school
districts have made because of NCLB, Obama states
that subjects like art "aren't just extras;
they're part of a well-rounded education." To
