List Digest, Vol 22, Issue 15 honoring the elders

Hello : I was at the conference and the lunch meeting in which the topic of
honoring the elders arose. I shared that I had just done a lesson on History
in the training group which I co-lead with Cathy Nugent and Joe Kenna -
and that the participants at first groaned about the topic. After the
experiential learning and a sociodrama based on Mittendorf, the participants
were in their words, "blown away" .I mentioned at the lunch meeting that
Cathy and I plan to put in a proposal for the 2009 conference to hold a full
day pre-conference to share this . I hope it will add to the ways in which
we are honoring the elders and also moving our work onward and outward.
Thanks to all of you who are contributing to the process. Linda Ciotola

elders are often defined in communities, both Indian and non-Indian
as those who hold wisdom. They are the grandfathers and
grandmothers, the multi-generational relationships we need to have.
I recall Rosalie Minkin, at the pre-conference workshop we did
together with Natalie Winters and Adam Barcroft, where she talked
about the issue of generations meeting other generations and role
reversals, doubles within a sociodrama. It is the learning,
following, hearing of our elders I was most moved by at the ASGPP
Conference in San Antonio. The on going honoring of one elder,
Eduardo Garcia, was amazingly loving. And then to see a noted author-
elder, Nina Garcia receive the JL Moreno award was part of it. But
even more so, or for me as much as - these awards, was the
conversation hour with the ASGPP Executive Council in which there
were elders. Both spoke, one about the pain they feel and the other
about the hope, and hope and pain became one there into a fused
feeling we face. Hope we can hear that the generations before us
want to be heard and that we need, in my view, to honor them in ways
they want to be honored. This includes many. What a loving way to
move forward!

I want to support Rosalie's suggestion below. I would like to urge that
this be done by inviting our elders to form a committee with some of us
newer folks
and we ask our elder's how would our elders and our ancestors like to be
honored?

I think this is a great idea and might make a great collaboration between
some of our younger members and some of our elders. I?m busy with the

Issues of psychodrama, sociatry, and sociometry journals have, at the back
information about attendance at national and international meetings; I have
a copy of the Moreno Institute directory published in 1974.

I am wondering if there were really old copies of the psychodrama
directories and if any of us have copies...? From before 1980?
That should have the names of some of our ancestors whom we may have lost
contact with.

suggesting we get a few of us as a team - and approach John R and the

It looks like we're building a new sub-committee of Archives - Psychodrama
Ancestry.
I'll touch base with the Archives Committee and with John Rasberry about the
project.
I have Ed, Jeanne, Jaime, and Linda who have expressed interest.
If anyone else has any input, e-mail me at kimbo.cox at gmail.com.
Once it's confirmed and we're set to go, I'll post a note to the listserv as
we start to collect information.

Formal Proposal Then:
Who would like to establish a committed that honors our elders and
our ancestors?
And in that formation, bring to ASGPP Council this formation to guide
the next ASGPP Conference, and Council, in this work?

just saw Kim's note ---- so I amend my own to suggest those wanting
to be on this --- send a note ---- as Kim identified --- to her.
But, let's make it distinct and not related to Archives. That has
its own mission already formed and already presented to the ASGPP.
Let's make this its own body.
I am in.

Ed, I don't see the need for it to be a distinct body. The part which is the
archives will be the documentation, and connecting to the established
information and material about our individual elders on hand. What will be
new is that this Archives committee could also have this action directive,
to create a process and event that will feature at each years conference or
other gatherings , and pehaps even space on the ASGPP website, where ongoing
tribute to elders can occur. The Council I guess can decide how they want
to handle it.
I went to the new ANZPA website and there is a section there, as well as a
wonderful tribute to Mike Consedine.
If you missed Adam's reference to it, go to:

just saw Kim's note ---- so I amend my own to suggest those wanting to be
on this --- send a note ---- as Kim identified --- to her.
But, let's make it distinct and not related to Archives. That has its own
mission already formed and already presented to the ASGPP.
Let's make this its own body.
I am in.
