Sociometry

I would LOVE to hear more about Sociometry! I wanted to attend Ann Hales
training in New Paltz but my schedule did not allow for it. I am most
curious how I can apply these methods to team build in a clinical work
environment? I am hoping to gain a better understanding of the existing
relationships - and attempt to correlate that into understanding the roles
each of the middle managers play in our organizational structure.. .. Why
would I want to that??? Well - I want to work toward creating an environment
that accesses and promotes individual creativity and learn how to better
access individual talents/creativity to benefit each team. (there are seven
clinical teams, and then medical/physical plant has three teams) I am
equally curious about utilizing role theory as a construct to engage in
clinical supervision with the therapists and team supervisors. So any
information any of you have to share - or articles to review I would greatly
appreciate it!

Thanks!

Laure

Hello, psychodrama friends:

I am personally signed up for this training and am recommending it as
strongly as possible, as I have already been training with Heinz and have
found this approach amazing. While there are parallels to psychodrama, it is
also a very powerful method on its own. Absolutely tremendous! Note that the
discount deadline is Aug. 1.

Systemic Family Constellation Work training with Heinz Stark comes to
Cincinnati, Ohio, in August 2008

Heinz Stark, one of the world's few master facilitators and teachers of
Systemic Constellation Work, will begin a two-year training program near
Cincinnati, Ohio, starting in August 2008. He has been incorporating art,
bioenergetics, Gestalt therapy, postural integration and shamanic practices
into his healing work for many years. A skilled family therapist, Stark was
trained by Bert Hellinger, the originator of this approach, and began
bringing this work from Germany to the United States in 1995. He is the
author of "Systemic Constellation As A Work Of Art: About Deep Dimensions In
Family Therapy" and as the founder of the Stark Institute in Germany is
considered one of the leading teachers of this approach. This is an
unparalleled opportunity to train with one of the masters of this powerful
work.

About the training

The training includes six sessions, each six days long, during a two-year
period in conjunction with ongoing peer study groups and readings. The
nature-oriented residential setting at Hope Springs Institute, Peebles, Ohio
- about 90 minutes east of Cincinnati - creates an comfortable atmosphere to
take in the learning at deep levels. The training begins Aug. 24-29, 2008
and continues through 2009, beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday and ending at 2 p.m.
Friday. Cost is $7,200 (food and lodging included) with discount for early
registration by Aug. 1, 2008.

Who will benefit

Mental health professionals, social workers, creative arts therapists,
psychodramatists, marriage and family therapists, physicians, nurses,
massage therapists and other bodyworkers, energy workers, qi gong and tai
chi chuan practitioners, and many other health, wellness and organizational
professionals. CE credits pending.

I am forwarding an article to Grouptalk at the request of Ali Undorf-Lay.
Ali writes a weekly column in a New Zealand newspaper; the attachment is her
column for this week, written during attendance at a sociometry workshop
that I also attended. She works for the Federated Farmers of New Zealand.
She hopes to be joining Grouptalk.

I'm interested in connecting with others who use psychodrama in
peace-building/mediation/community re-building.? I'd love to find out more
on how you've used it, and with what results.? My professional background
combines anthropology (the cross-cultural perspective and love of ritual)
with psychodrama, as a way to set out in the open the disputes that keep
communities apart.? Warring ethnic communities would, for example, set up a
carpet piece representing the dynamics of their conflict (or better: the
emotions/judgments behind them), then get resolution and healing via the
drama.

I also want to take the symbolic nature of this work a step further, using
individual members of a community or conflict to represent the whole.? The
reading I've done in Jung and R. Steiner implies that such symbolic work
positively impacts the group or community as a whole.

The particluar vein of psychodrama I'm trained in is ShadowWork (developed
by Barry/Blandford, based on Jung's shadow & H/S Stone's voice dialogue).

I would appreciate any literature suggestions & continuing this conversation
w/ interesteds.

Hi Cynthia,
I hear about those sociometry workshops, and so you attended one in
the Hudson Valley area? Are there any new written materials? (All I have is
Ann Hale's old but good 3-hole-binder book.) (and another one or two of her
monographs). I wish we could get some written notes of the kinds of
exercises done, the instructions, what worked, what was most and least
helpful for different kinds of personalities, etc.

The article from Ali only hints at the substance of the workshop. She
partakes of the ANZPA double-word naming of roles, and I wonder how much
others at the workshop picked up on or used that technique.

Did it seem as if anyone else at that workshop would be interested in
gathering together the notes or readings in the field and beginning to
prepare a book on contemporary techniques, developments, refinements, or
applications of sociometry? Perhaps an anthology? Our field needs
something like this.

      Warmly, Adam

Hi Andrea,
Much thanks for your call for connection with others who use our
method for community re-building and all that might entail. That's
presently the
focus of my work. It began, for me, with research of Moreno's
understanding of sociatry - which as I understand it, is the
application of the method
"for the whole of mankind". Interestingly enough - sociatry is
related to what can be seen - as the largest of sociometric
structures in operation on
the planet, in the whole of humanity. These structures, sociatric in
nature, inform and impact all groups, organizations, families,
individuals. It is these large sociometric structures that
sociometry attempts to define, to some extent, and repair and
transform. My own work with all of this over the course of many
years has been to DEFINE a way to use the method for community re-
building, taking the method out the office and bring it to the
community, so to speak. I'm finishing the design of a 100-hour
curriculum of the method to teach that, train others in all this and
I would be happy to connect with you if you feel that would be of help.

Warm thanks,

Ed Schreiber

Dear Andrea--your work sounds rich and rewarding for you and the communities

with which you work.

I am curious about Barry/Blanford. Was their trainer Moreno who developed
Psychodrama or some other TEP (Certified Trainer, Educator, Practitioner in
Psychodrama)? in my training for certification in Psychodrama I have never
heard of them or the ShadowWork method you referred to. I would like to
hear more. Thanks. Patti
