Hello,

  Finally, inspired into the conversation
I have been recently working sociodramatically with a college class called Earth Advocacy: Ecology and Social Responsibility. The class is offered as a core course for and with adults with developmental disabilities. We ask the question, Who speaks for mother earth? Who listens? One recent exploration developed a conversation between a family in Columbia- coffee growers and- two friends enjoying the Starbucks community ambience. We followed the movement of the whole bean, from the earth through all of the economic, political, social, and human relationships along the way.

I am planning to have open Sociodrama sessions in the fall focusing around the election and all of the issues this brings into play. We will start with a Living Newspaper motif; working from Moreno’s indications and exploring approaches from Boal and a few others. I have an old dream; to have open and ongoing Sociodrama sessions in the city: Philadelphia
South Street Sociodrama or South Street Sociometry sounded like a good name. A wide spectrum of people visits this area from tourists to local musicians and tattoo artists. Exploring the social issues while tapping into the creative potential and the energy of the city is exciting.

Open Psychodrama sessions are another story. I think an effort to present such an evening as an artistic event and not a therapeutic one is very important. I have seen open sessions become a place for inexpensive and uncommitted “therapy” for regular attendees and sometimes “hit and run” protagonists can wreak some havoc on the group.

We are in Chester Co PA now. Phoenixville is a local town on the rise. There is an old theater which shows special movies and hosts local artists and social events. The theater and the coffee shop a few doors down have often combined; people leave the theater and go to the coffee shop for a discussion. We have offered playback at the coffee shop (Steel City) a few times. Thanks, Ann, I think we will offer to host Sociodrama sessions around some of the films. We should even be able to help choose the films. (Is the Grandin still running?-Roanoke)

  More later

    Roy
