Members Digest, Vol 49, Issue 13

I am so not proposing that psychodrama psychotherapy change its name. Leave
it as it is. This illustrates the strength and value of conservative-ism.
I'm just pointing out that applications in education, business, and
many other fields might well be called by something else such as action
explorations
  because
    - such explorations often border into axiodrama or sociodrama
    - the word "drama" itself has changed its semantic impact
    - applications in non-therapeutic contexts are often less dramatic than
the classical format
    - parts of drama therapy and sociodrama and psychodrama venture beyond
their borders into non-psychotherapeutic applications, and many elements
are thereby changed a little or a lot
     - psychodrama as a term has been and will continue to be misused by
people who know nothing about it
so I'm leaving the term psychodrama alone when it is used by most of
our colleagues in discourse, and moving laterally to note
       - some of its relations to other expressive therapies, especially as
they too reach beyond the context of psychotherapy
       - some of the applications of the arts beyond therapy yet to amplify
lived experience and bring creativity more into life
Warmly, Adam Blatner now in middle coastal California
