It is a good term. And yes, I think psychodrama gives practical tools that are user friendly, usable by many types of people, old, sick, young, healthy, weak, and strong. We have a public psychodrama in London once a month directed by a network of London psychodramtists. We get about 10-55 people attending. Usually about half of the audience are new to psychodrama. On one occasion, one of them was my son, Jackson, 26, who is an artist. As I was directing that night, I had observed him and his girlfriend animatedly taking part in a group warm up. Afterwards I asked them what they thought of it all. " Fantastic, mum," he said. "I forgot how delightful it is to talk to total strangers about meaningful things in life. " I thought that was a nice simple statement about sharing this dilemma we call life in an action method able to be grasped by "non-believers" or regular folk. I remember watching Moreno direct a session in New York, the first time I saw him I was 23, and thinking, "Why didn't someone else think of this earlier? It's so simple. Taking scenes of life and putting them on a stage." It's this simplicity of interacting in a real, authentic way that Moreno has offered us. What a powerful tool. But as Zerka says, " Psychodrama is like a hammer. It can be used to build a house, pound a nail or murder somebody. Don't blame the hammer." Those of us who use it have a great responsibiliy to wield it humbly, with humanity and caution. Moreno, in his mastery , made it look simple but he was very tender, particularly with the psychotics. Cautious isn't a word I'd use about him because he was so spontaneous but wise and intelligently careful creating a universal warmth. The room had its arms around you. Anything was possible. Nice feeling to think you can create the moment together and that you are at the brink of something new and fresh. This co-creating and the opportunity of co-creating for each of us I think was at the nub of the Godhead concept. Being your own God with all that implies, is a real responsibility not only for ourselves but for the group we are in, the society and the world. What about that, Ed?
