<TR>
<TD vAlign=top>Dear Cynthia,
<DIV><BR></DIV>
<DIV>The library collection at St. Elizabeths was transferred to the
District of Columbia Government. Then when the District left the
old section of the campus, whatever was left became the property of
the Federal Government. The Library of Congress has an
incredible collection of books, magazines, journals, tapes, and
manuscripts. The Library Of Congress does have a copy of each
book that Moreno ever wrote, copies of all his journals, copies of
many of his pamphlets, and several audio recordings. These
materials are available to scholars. It is actually quite easy
to get a scholar's pass to the library. I used to have one. You
just present your request in writing and in person to the Library of
Congress Office for Scholars. The scholar must have a good
reason. I brought my resume and told them I was working on an
article for publication (which I was), and they granted the pass to be
in about thirty minutes. Then you pay a small fee, have your
photo taken and you are issued a "Visiting Scholar's Pass" With
that pass you can be admitted to most of the reading rooms, and
request that materials be brought to you. There are also
reference librarians who can help you with your search. I
imagine it might be a more rigorous process for the ancient
manuscripts, etc. I used this service after 9/11 so I would
think it is still in use. </DIV>
<DIV>As a community we need never worry about Moreno's works being
lost because they are at the Library of Congress and at the Countway
Medical Library at Harvard. </DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial>Hi Dale and others,</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial>I was thinking about this today.
I have fond memories of the main library in the hospital
which had such a great collection of pd books, good number of
original Moreno books and other early pd writers. Is the
library collection also lost? As is gov't property, I
wonder if there might be more luck, if the library collection is not
destroyed, getting the collection of books, at least, transferred to
the Library of Congress? Especially if Lib of Congress might
be interested in the collection and appeal for it (though
imagine homeland security could trump them). </FONT></DIV>

<TD vAlign=top>Hi Michael,
<DIV><BR></DIV>
<DIV>Unfortuately the archives at St. Elizabeths are
lost. The building we were once located in has been
closed for over ten years. There was much water
damage, mold etc in the building the last time I was
there. Now that building and all in that area are
under the Homeland Security Administration. No one
can enter. No one can search around in an old
abandoned building and no one can take materials
away. Given that the remaining achives are property
of the federal goverment it would probably take an
act of congress to get in. I had communicated this
to Adam earlier. There were a little over 200
research projects stored in three file cabinets.
Most of the better ones have already been published.
Peace, Dale</DIV>
